Christa Wojo’s take on the Writer’s Roast, from the excellent blog My Sweet Delirium.
“Why Roast and Be Roasted?
I know something’s wrong with every draft I write, but I usually can’t figure out what it is. For most writers, it’s difficult to see the forest from the trees. We are too close to our characters and too blind to our bad habits to make a sound critique of our own work.
At the same time, most writers are very busy with blogs, social media, and revisions; not to mention jobs, families, and maintaining personal hygiene. Today’s writer doesn’t have time to waste! We want to know what’s wrong with our writing without any sugar coating, and so I invented the Writers Roast to see if any other writers wanted a merciless critique from their colleagues.”
