Welcome back to 30 Days of Painting! My goal is to get myself painting every day so that I can feel more comfortable with the brush. I’d love to be able to illustrate my stories for myself and my family, but I lack confidence and facility. Hopefully by turning my hobby into a daily habit I’ll be able to find my comfort zone.
Day 5: A Quick Tree
Today I opted for a more sketch-like style of detail work, but without allowing myself a pencil sketch first. I didn’t have a huge amount of time for painting today, so I went with a tree and some grasses. Trees always make me happy, but grasses are always a challenge.
I kept my color pallet to four shades: green, brown, black, and yellow, and just sort of let myself play. Here’s what I came up with:
I think the grasses could use more color layering and a few more of those wheat-like stalks, but overall I’m mostly pleased with how this turned out in such a short amount of time. I might come back to this one to spruce it up later on.
Until next time.
